Abstract
Approach to the neck masses in children is still controversial. Ultrasound (US), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Computed Tomography (CT) can be used as diagnostic tools for neck masses. Histologic diagnosis is important in these patients for ruling out malignancy. US- guided needle biopsy popularized recently may be misleading in the masses with more than one tissue types as teratomas. In this case report it is aimed to discuss a case of mature cystic teratoma of neck revealed after exciisonal biopsy in a 5-month-old baby girl; whose previously obtained needle biopsy was apparently consistent with glioma.
