Abstract

Despite many efforts to correct it in the past, anal and urinary incontinence remains a major health issue. Within those who have attempted to find a solution to this debilitating problem, Professor İhsan Numanoglu has a special place as a pediatric surgeon. He developed and clinically tested two devices for the patients who do not have anal continence, and published the results of his studies in two separate papers in Artificial Organs journal in 1986 and 1987. In this article, I attempted to review available information about İhsan Numanoğlu’s anal and urinary control device which he originally designed, produced and applied to correct an evident suffering, using his vast clinical experience, detailed analysis, and imagination leaping much ahead of his time.
