Abstract

Short bowel syndrome (SBS) is an absorption problem caused by insufficient bowel length and mucosal surface area. It progresses with severe protein-energy malnutrition and electrolyte-vitamine disorders. Necrotizing enterocolitis, intestinal atresia, midgut volvulus and gastroschisis are the most frequent causes of SBS. In this study, two SBS patients who underwent Bianchi’s bowel lengthening procedure were presented and approach of Turkish pediatric surgeons to cases with SBS were outlined via a literature review.
