Abstract

The birth rate of very low birth weight premature babies is increasing with the widespread application of assisted reproductive technologies in perinatology. The survival rates of very low birth weight infants have increased due to the scientific and technologic developments in neonatology. But these babies will be exposed to many problems associated with both the prematurity and longer stay in neonatal intensive care units.

The aim of this study is to evaluate and discuss the anticipated higher mortality and morbidity risks in these very low birth weight premature infants who are treated and followed-up in neonatal intensive care units.
