Abstract
Surgical therapy was excluded since the lesion had invasive appearance and lingular lesion had suspicion of metastasis although initial radiological diagnosis was “teratoma” in a 14-year old patient who had a 7 cm lesion in the anterior mediastinum and a second 3.5 cm lesion with similar characteristics in the lingular segment. Both lesions were removed completely with “muscle-sparing thoracotomy” with the intension of definitive diagnosis and cure. Histopathology was reported as “mature cystic teratoma; chronic inflammation due to foreign body reaction”. We present the case due to complexities observed in the diagnosis and favourable results obtained with surgery.
