Abstract
Aortic arch anomalies in association with esophageal atresia and tracheo-esophageal fistula’s (EA/TEF) are rare; however they can be easily overlooked and interfere with the surgical procedure. In this study, we investigate the incidence of right arcus aorta (RAA) and EA/TEF, the accuracy of preoperative echocardiogram and the feasibility of right thoracotomy. Four patients diagnosed for RAA and EA/TEF were retrospectively evaluated. The incidence of RAA in association with EA/TEF was 8.5 %. Only two patients were preoperatively diagnosed to have RAA with echocardiogram. In all four patients, EA/TEF repair were conducted with a right thoracotomy. In conclusion, RAA anomalies can easily be overlooked, therefore the anomaly should be kept in mind and especially sought for; with a careful and meticulous study, repair is feasible in patients with RAA and EA/TEF.
