Abstract

The first successful surgical intervention for the treatment of Hirschsprung’s disease (HH) was performed by Swenson and Bill in 1948. In the following years, Duhamel, Martin, State, Rehbein, Soave, Boley described the techniques and modifications named after them.

Early diagnosis of Hirschsprung disease, improvement of pediatric anesthesia and postoperative care conditions, and attempts to make surgical interventions less invasive have changed the treatment principles of HH.

Transanal endorectal pull-through for Rectosigmoid Hirschsprung’s disease defined by De la Torre-Mondragon L, Ortega-Salgado JA in 1998 which is a modification of the Soave-Boley operation performed through the transanal pathway without opening abdominal cavity. Operating most of the patients in the neonatal period with a singlesession technique without laparotomy, is considered as the most important change in the treatment of HH.
