Abstract
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become a more frequently performed operation in children due to increased number of cholecystectomy indications, decreasing trend of laparoscopic cholecystectomy contraindications as a result of increased experience. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been popularized within a short time, and become a gold standard method used in a substantial number of cases with indication of cholecyctectomy as a result of its short duration of hospital stay, better cosmetic results, lower rates of postoperative pain, and ileus. Complications can be reduced if methodological steps known as “critical view of safety” is followed. In the current article, indications and contraindications of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, surgical techniques, their complications and treatment of these complications have been reviewed.
