Abstract
Meckel diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. Littre hernia (LH) is the protrusion of a MD through a potential abdominal opening with a contained sac. Incarcerated LH is very rare seen in childhood period.
A 14 months old baby boy was brought to our emergency service with right inguinal swelling and restlessness. Right inguinal hernia or right cord cyst were considered in preliminary diagnosis. His ultrasonographic findings were compatible with inguinal hernia. During the patient’s clinical assessment, partial intestinal obstruction signs emerged and incarcerated LH was encountered. MD release of the hernia sac was manually reduced into the abdomen. Inguinal hernia was repaired via performing high ligation. No early or late complications have occured during the postoperative follow-up of our patient.
In this article, we aimed to present a very rare case of incarcerated LH and to discuss it in context of the literature.
