Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to investigate working conditions, workforce and workload of pediatric surgeons in Türkiye.

Materials and methods: Between July 2023 and August 2023, a total of 152 pediatric surgeons from 50 provinces were included in the study. A survey was used to investigate the current working conditions, problems and solution suggestions, and expectations of the participants. The results were classified as percentages and numerically.

Results: A total of 58% of the participants were satisfied with their profession. Despite the increased workload, half of the participants reported that many pediatric surgeons would not solve the problems. Half of the participants believed that adult surgeons could intervene in emergency cases. The main problem was the insufficient financial reward for labor.

Conclusion: Future planning should be made by working with professional organizations and relevant boards to accurately highlight the importance and needs of the pediatric surgery workforce and reduce the workload.
