Abstract
Continous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is one of the preferred treatment alternatives in patients with chronic renal failure. An indwelling peritoneal catheter should be placed intraperitoneally in order to be able to perform CAPD procedure, and a reliable fluid exchange within peritoneal cavity. For proper functioning of the dialysis catheter, the tip of the catheter should be placed within the pelvic cavity, and peritonela cavity should not be obstructed.
Peritoneal catheters can be placed by minilaparotomy, percutaneously or laparoscopically. Since laparoscopy enables the dialysis catheters to be placed in the right place in the pelvis under direct vision, and also enables achievement of omentectomy, omentopexy or adesiolysis, it is more frequently preferred when compared with other methods.
Laparoscopic peritoneal dialysis catheter implantation is a safe and feasible method in children of all ages even in complicated patients who had intraabdominal adhesions.
